Star screens are used in various applications to remove fine material, dust, and soil. In the field of C&D, the soil will be removed to be reused as cover material in landfills. For handling operations, peat, twigs, and roots will be removed from the topsoil.
Our high-capacity star screens, operating at a speed of 200 feet per minute, are versatile and custom-made to meet your specific application. With stars mounted on closely spaced parallel shafts, the material conveyed in the screen bounces during the rotation of the shafts. The tips of the stars separate the fine material from the rest. The fine material passes between the stars while the rest is conveyed to the end of the sieve.
Star screens differ from rotary screens, which rely on the passage of material through a mesh. The rotating stars create a bed of mobile stars, which allows for the fragmentation of wet and twisted materials, ensuring superior separation. The material is agitated enough to allow the separation of a larger quantity of fine material that will not be conveyed with the rest. Depending on your application, star screens can help eliminate the intrinsic binding of high-moisture content materials
